I used this CD to learn new concepts in my math classes. It is one of the few products which covers math concepts for 5th -8th grade. The kids loved it. Even though they like to act older, they are still children and they are motivated through music.

This CD is a great idea, but the execution is just not quite there. It would have been so helpful to have sample tracks on the Amazon site: I would have saved the money. I put it on for my 9 year old son, and after only a few minutes, he asked that I just turn it off. We flipped through the tracks to see if one suited our fancy, but the music here is just not appealing. The words are somewhat clever, but I don't see the reason for pulling in so much bilingual content- we're doing math, not Spanish. The musical style might be good for some, but I dislike the style and the vocals. Pass on this one.
<br />Contrast this to Beethoven's Wig by Richard Perlmutter- On that CD, the very clever lyrics are set to tunes of the masters. The vocals are not stupendous, and the instrumentals are not perfectly polished, but the whole package is so well concieved that it makes up for all of this, and the album is great overall. After all, ordinary musicians with ordinary voices can still produce fabulous results. This is not so with the "Do the math" album.

As an educator of 5th grade students, I have used Mr. Guffee's "Do the Math" CD with my class. They love long division now because they remember the "Goes Into" Family of Dad, Mom, Sister and Brother! We just hit exponents and "You're my exponents baby" is a super memory aid!

i have not yet bought this cd but I think that it would be great for my daughter and myself since we are so in love with music. I can learn things much better if it is something that I enjoy. I will try it out and see for myself but i have no doubt that my 9 year old would get a great amount from it.

If you or your children have had trouble memorizing math concepts, this CD is for you. Providing math concepts in fun and catchy songs, Harry Guffee is a musical genius. I prefer this to other titles by School House Rock, as Do the Math! goes more into depth with mathematical algorithms and formulas as well as ways to help you succeed. Sometimes funny, others serious, Do the Math! is a great addition to any CD collection.
